“Hilos de Plata” is a non profit institution that was founded by Mrs. Blanca Erazo in 2000. The purpose is to offer homeless elderly people a place to live, the last stage of their lives, feeling loved. The founder states the institution was established to contribute to the development of Honduras by watching out for the elderly population, those who after a life of hard work and sacrifice are homeless down the road and living the last stage of their life in a complete misery where the only alternative shelter is the street. Changes in the demographic structure with increase in the percentage of people over 60 years old has a direct impact on social, economic and political development in the country. The Nursing Home “Hilos de Plata” has legal personality under the Honduran Government by the country State of Departmend of Justice. It benefits those elderly people who for various circumstances are alone in social risk, poverty and homelessness by providing specialist nursing care and integrating them in the society so they feel they are still valuable as an individual and the status as member of a family and a society. The elderly have diseases like: Alzheimer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), high blood pressure, diabetes, Schizophrenia, vertigo, among others.
