“Fundación de Parques Nacionales – Parque Naciones Unidas (National Park Foundation – United Nations Park)” is a non-profit organization that promotes and contributes to the conservation, improvement and administration of the National Parks Ecological Conservation Plan in the context of sustainable development of the country, channeling in an efficient and effective way the resources available in coordination with the efforts of the municipal and national government, and other public or private institutions to establish links for the fulfillment of our goals.

The Conservation, Improvement and Promotion Project of the United Nations Park also called "El Picacho" has as primary aims the forest resources and environmental conservation, and the cultural tourism; particularly involving the communities surrounding the park. As well external groups and partners, promoting to the capital's population and visitors the importance of the environment and the cultural relevance of the park, improve the recreational areas and the construction of kiosks, new gardens, and ornate balconies that contribute to the park. This project is of vital importance because of the need for the implementation of an irrigation system in southern slope of the park necessary for the strengthening of the areas to be reforested because of the topography of the ground.

  • Environmental Education: In order to achieve the specific objective, which is the protection and maintenance of the United Nations Park, El Picacho, the Foundation works with the various boards of the areas adjacent to the park, as well as the various schools and institutes in the capital city, providing educational talks about the importance of the environment in addition to the environmental and historical importance that has the green lung of the Capital City.
  • Forest Protection: The National Park Foundation has a management plan, an essential tool to carry out different activities of protection and the construction of rounds, surveillance and forestry areas referred to in the schedule.
  • Institutional Strengthening: With the development of this project is also meant for the conservation and protection of the park, to publicize the cultural and historical and environmental park and the creation and improvement of areas that would come to affect the entry of visitors and hence in raising funds to achieve self-sustaining park.
