The “Instituto Psicopedagógico Juana Leclerc (Psycho pedagogical Institution Juana Leclerc)” is a non-profit institution that takes care of children and youths with mental handicaps and with learning difficulties.Throughout time, it has been growing and it counts today with 8 attention programs. Since its beginnings, the institution has developed incident actions at national and international level in favor of the handicap sector.

It’s an opened-door institution to all children and youths that have learning difficulties, offering an integral attention through diverse communitarian strategies.

The institution’s vision is to contribute to get a democratic and more just society, equal and liable, in which it is respected and valued the person’s differences such as handicap, gender,age, race, creed or nationality; participate on politics and processes that contribute to the equality of opportunities and social integration in a frame of human rights.


Living with a host family


The institution’s activities consist of a specialized program for mentally disabled children and youths from poor families, providing center-based pre-school and primary education, as well as a community-based rehabilitation program.

There are special programs consisting in the development of the students’ abilities and dexterities towards achieving their personal, social and working independence, with the purpose of getting a better quality life.
The main programs are:

  • School for Parents.
  • Language Therapy.
  • Physical Education.
  • Musical and Artistic Therapy (Art).
  • Recreational Therapy (camps, traditional games, Special Olympics).
  • Corporal Expression.
  • Well-Being Corner.
  • Pre-Vocational Training Workshops (spices production, carpentry, bakery, organic fertilizer production) are also an important part of the curriculum, offering young adults possibilities to be integrated into the local labor market.

  • Abilities and Attitudes: Be decided and motivated to work with mentally handicapped persons, initiative, patience and to be creative.
