Hogar De Niños Alalay

  • Start Date 2017-02-14
  • End Date: 2018-02-14

  • Location: La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba.

Hogar de niños Alalay is a non-profit organization dedicated to help street children reintegrate into society. Alalay gives them love and teaches them to find their place in the society, self-confidence and responsibility. The children come directly from the streets; most of them are addicted to drugs, so the project also helps them to combat their addiction.

Accomodation:

The project sometimes hosts volunteers, but normally they have host families.

Activities:

Alalay gives the street children home, board, education, health care, social and psychological assistance. Alalay also helps the children finish school and offers special training for their future.

The Alalay programme has different houses, which represent different stages within the reintegration process. For example, the 1st stage house in La Paz is located in El Alto and hosts only boys coming straight from the streets. The girls house is in La Paz.

To help take care of the children and help them with their homework, share in the activities and experiences of the children living in the project, prepare workshops on different topics, work on the streets informing children of the project, take the children to school, hospital, dentist, etc. If the volunteer speaks good Spanish he/she can participate in the therapeutic groups. The project is open to new ideas like painting, carpentry, music, sports or whatever skills the volunteer has.

Requirement:

The volunteers have to be open-minded, have initiative, creativity, patience and show a lot of affection for the children. They have to be prepared to work in a difficult context and reality because the work with former street children can at times be hard. Motivation is very important and some knowledge of Spanish is preferable. Both sexes are accepted. If the volunteer is to work in Alalay Aldeas, she/he has to live within the project from Monday to Friday.
